Purpose of life

There are at least 2 purposes for the lives of people.

A. The first is the biological purpose which is common to all life.

Evolution shows that there is a process of increaing complexity.
There were many definitions of life to differentiate it from not life
The last definition that I have heard is - the illusionary local negation of entropy.

As noted above life has a tendency to create more order, i.e.
life forms tend to become more complex than their previous forms. This is the negation of entropy that maintains that all processes lead to an increase of entropy by a loss of enrgy and information i.e. less order (measured in bits of information).

However, if you take all the energy that life uses (mainly by eating), then you can see the amount of energy used is greater than the additional information produced. (Entropy deals with energy AND information.) Therefore the negation is an illusion.

This illusion of negation is local. So far we see life only on our planet. But many astro physicists are certain that there is life on other planets as well. Even so it is still local because it is not found in all of space.

Biologists propose that the purpose of life is connected with this definition - that the purpose of life is to react to the environment and to develop accordingly.  Amino acids in the beginning connected to form one celled creatures. Thse then connected to form many celled creatures.  Today this tendency is seen mainly in the development of society (countries connecting together for example).

B. Humans have added to the biological purpose of life an individual purpose (or purposes) of their own choice.
Here the purposes are different between one person and the next. And there are many people who are not aware of their own real purposes. (See the part of this blog on "Idealism".)
